St. Martin’s is excited to offer a new opportunity for children to learn about singing and reading music, particularly Gregorian chant.
No experience is necessary. There is no age limit. The only prerequisite is that participants must be able to read English fluently.
Schedule and Curriculum
Students who attend the chant camp will learn basic singing technique, ear-training and rhythm skills. Students will also explore music as it relates to the Sacred Liturgy and prayers of the Church. Sung prayer will be a daily part of the curriculum as will opportunities for fun and making new friends. The camp will culminate in singing at the noon Mass on Thursday.
Monday-Wednesday:
10:00 – Morning session. Prayer, warm-ups, solfege, ear-training and rhythm exercises.
12:00 – Mass
12:30 – Lunch *Children must bring a bag lunch*
1:15-2:15 – Afternoon session. Repertoire and singing the liturgy.
Thusday:
10:00 – Morning session
12:00 – Noon Mass – Sung by the Chant Camp choristers.
Students will be dismissed after the Noon Mass.
